PRODUCTION BRIEFS: Palm Pictures and Master P, Albert Brooks is the Funniest Man in America, Kalesni

Chris Blackwell’s Palm Pictures (James Toback’s upcoming “Black and White“)
is busily in production on “Lock Down,” from writer Preston A. Whitmore III
(“Fled“) and director John Luessenhop, being made in conjunction with
multimedia phenom Master P (“I Got the Hookup“), who will star as well as
executive produce through his No Limit Films production arm. Also starring
is Richard T. Jones (“The Wood“), in a gritty story of prison life focusing
on a trio of wrongly imprisoned inmates. Jeff Clanagan of No Limit will
produce along with Hooman Majd of Palm Pictures and Mark Burg & Oren Koules
of Evolution Entertainment (“Black and White”).

Animation experts Film Roman (“The Simpsons“) are dipping into the live
action indie feature world with “My First Mister,” the feature directing
debut of actress Christie Lahti (director of the Oscar-winning short
Lieberman in Love“), currently in pre-production, and starring Albert
Brooks (this summer’s “The Muse“) and Leelee Sobieski (“Eyes Wide Shut“).
The comedy tells the story of the emotional bond that develops between a
rebellious teen and a crotchety older man.

Variety is reporting that writer Michael Kalesniko (“Private Parts“) is set
to make his directing debut with the indie black comedy “How to Kill You
Neighbor’s Dog
,” from his own script, and with a cast that includes Kenneth
Branagh (“Wild Wild West“) and Robin Wright-Penn (“Message in a Bottle“).
The film tells the story of an LA playwright who snaps and joins forces
with an 8 year old girl to take revenge on the dog keeping them both up at
night, unexpectedly turning both of their lives around in the process.
