>> Wallace and Gromit Setting Up Shop at Atom Films

(indieWIRE/1.13.2000) — Fans of Wallace and Gromit will undoubtedly soon
become regular visitors to AtomFilms thanks to a new deal between Atom and
Aardman Animations, the landmark British animation home for animators such
as Oscar winner Nick Park. Atom will launch The Aardman Observer, a “3-d
newspaper” that will connect Internet viewers with a catalog of Aardman
short films.

“The work we are doing with AtomFilms is as much a chronicle of our output
over the last 20 years as it is a marketing tool,” explained Liz Keynes,
Head of Rights and Licensing at Aardman, in a prepared statement, “The
Internet is the only medium which allows audiences the flexibility to trace
the development of our film-making techniques in this way, as well as
providing the most personal and interactive viewing experience for our

The deal comes from AtomFilms’ new European division, based in London. In a
prepared statement, AtomFilms Europe managing director Michael Comish said,
“Aardman is a recognized leader in the entertainment industry and its
content is unique. We hope to broaden the entertainment experience for our
users – both through content and by providing an interactive online

>> Sundance Channel and Film Society Launch New Series

(indieWIRE/1.13.2000) — Sundance Channel is launching its first original
series. Dubbed, “Conversations in World Cinema,” the program is a new
half-hour monthly program that include conversations with international
filmmakers. The series is being produced in collaboration with the Film
Society of Lincoln Center
. It will be hosted by Film Society Program
Director Richard Pena.

Kicking off the series next month will be a conversation with Jane Campion
(“Holy Smoke,” “The Piano“). Upcoming episodes of the half-hour show will
include Mike Leigh, Atom Egoyan, Claire Denis. According to a Channel
announcement, the series will also include American filmmakers “whose work
is influenced by international cinema.” The series’ executive producers are
Sundance Channel’s Liz Manne & Adam Pincus and The Film Society’s Graham

>>Sharon Kahn Heading to Fox Searchlight; Promotions at Falco

(indieWIRE/1.13.2000) — Changes in the indiefilm PR world continued this
week as Kahn & Jacobs finished work on their final account (The New York
Film Critics Circle
) and former partner Sharon Kahn accepted a position at
an Indiewood company. Meanwhile, Falco announced a couple of promotions.

Kahn will be joining the team over at Fox Searchlight as Senior VP of
Publicity and Promotions., reporting directly to Fox Searchlight Marketing
President Nancy Utley. In her newly created position Kahn will be in charge
of strategic planning, national and regional publicity and promotions for
the company. The announcement comes just months after Kahn & Jacobs
(founded with Susan Jacobs) shut their doors forever after seven years in
business. The two parted amicably, deciding to pursue other interests.
Jacobs is currently consulting at Sony Music‘s classical division.

Meanwhile at Falco Ink, which launched a year ago when a group left Clein +
, Shannon Treusch has joined Jeff Hill, Janice Roland and Gary Hill as
a partner in the firm. Steve Beeman has been promoted to the position of
Senior Publicist, while Erin Bruce recently joined Falco from Clein + White as
a junior publicist. Falco launched an international division in September,
with Chris Paton heading a London-based office that includes Jane Gibbs.

These shifts are the latest in a series of changes taking place within
specialized film publicity.
