>> Slamdance 2000 Closing with Dwight Yoakam Film

(indieWIRE/1.12.2000) — The 2000 Slamdance Film Festival will close on
Friday, January 28th with the world premiere of Dwight Yoakam‘s directorial
debut, “South of Heaven, West of Hell.” The film, which stars Yoakam and
Bridget Fonda, along with appearances by Vince Vaughn, Billy Bob Thornton, Peter Fonda, Paul Rubens, Bud Cort, Michael Jeter and others.

Based on a story by Yoakam, the screenplay was written by Yoakam and Stan
. It was produced by Gray Fredrickson (Co-Producer of “The
Godfather, Part II
” and “Apocalypse Now“) and Darris Hatch. Dwight Yoakam and Pete Anderson composed the music for the film.

>> Thousand Words launches Finishing Fund for Filmmakers

(indiewire/1.12.2000) — Thousand Words, the production and financing
company (formerly known as Sibling Entertainment) announced that they
have secured half a million dollars for the launching of a new finishing
fund program. The fund, started by Palmer West and Jonah Smith, was
created to help emerging filmmakers complete their films following principal
photography. Along with financial support the company will provide producer
assistance and contacts. Though theatrical release for the films is the
final goal, Thousand Words is pursuing alternative means to distribute
the finished films, the first step in that endeavor is the creation of
their web site. According to a prepared statement they “aim to create
a new realm of entertainment online which utilizes the webs technologies
to enhance viewer involvement.” Thousand Words recently produced and
financed Darren Aronofsky‘s second film, “Requiem For A Dream.”
