(indieWIRE/4.5.00) — Agenda 2000, the digital production division of
IFC‘s Next Wave Films, has announced plans for their first digital
feature film. “Manic,” directed by Jordan Melamed, is described in
a company announcement as, “the story of a group of troubled teens
forced to face their demons in a juvenile mental institution.”

Melamed is a graduate of the AFI, known for his thesis film, “A Corner
in Gold
.” In a prepared statement, the filmmaker commented, “DV is the
right format to capture the immediacy and claustrophobia of life on the
ward as well as the emotional desperation and explosiveness of the
characters. The audience will feel at the center of the action, not
at a safe distance.”

The movie is being produced by Kirk Hassig and Trudi Callon. The
project was written by actors Michael Bacall, who will co-star, and
Blayne Weaver. It will begin shooting next month.
