"Tully" Wins Gen Art; "On The Road" in Cannes with Slamdance

(indieWIRE/05.04.00) — Hilary Bermingham‘s “What Happened to
,” which won two awards at last month’s LAIFF, won the
audience award at the 5th Gen Art Film Festival in New York.

Bermingham will receive a $25,000 package, sponsored by Cataland Films
and Cyclops Pictures & Sound, of film and film services towards her
next project.

At Tuesday night’s closing party at Emporio Armani, the festival
also presented the Nokia Film Connection Contest prize to Matthew Huffman,
the director of “Playing Mona Lisa.” The director was selected to
receive $50,000 in film and film services to produce a short that
“can be used by both the filmmaker and Nokia to celebrate the concept
of ‘Connecting People.’ [Eugene Hernandez]

>> “On The Road” in Cannes with Slamdance

(indieWIRE/05.04.00) — The Slamdance Film Festival returns to Cannes
for year two of “On The Road” screenings of films that made their debut
at the January festival in Park City. Peter Baxter, Executive Director
of Slamdance, announced yesterday that the screenings will take place
at the Hotel Gray d’Albion’s Salons Croisette (38 Rue des Serbes – BP 295),
May 13-15.

Five features will be screened along with 11 short subjects. According
to a prepared statement Baxter explained that, “The mission of the Slamdance
Film Festival is to provide the widest possible audience for the films we
select to debut at our annual festival. By taking a selection of these
films ‘On the Road’ throughout the year, we broaden the opportunity for
both the entertainment industry and the general public to see Slamdance

Films to be screened include “Blink of an Eye” by Van Fischer, “System Noise” by Josh Ferrazzano, “Three Days” by Carter B. Smith
and Kevon Ford and “Tuvalu” by Veit Helmer. [Maya Churi]
