>> Film Festivals Dot Com, One Year Old Site Offers Features Online
(indieWIRE/02.08.01) — If you can’t make it to one of the major film
festivals this month FilmfestivalsTV.com now offers you a small taste of
what it’s like, online. The new broadband service from FilmFestivals.com
is streaming six films to limited audiences during the current Berlinale
and the recent Rotterdam Festival. All films were entered in festivals in
the last two years. In addition to the feature length films there are
interviews with the filmmakers, the films’ festival track record, chatrooms
“Filmfestivals.com has selected a group of highly distinguished and
award-winning independent feature films for its inaugural push into
broadband internet streaming. We are building a new way to experience
movies with online interactivity. We provide viewers and film teams
innovative online experience to interact around the film. The first six
films will all be available simultaneously for audiences that have
broadband connections,” said Filmfestivals.com CEO & President Malo Girod
de l’Ain, who launched the site one year ago in Berlin.
Features running include: “Pariah” by Nicolas Klotz, which recently won the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival and awards at the
Geneva Film Festival; “Beyond the Ocean” by Tony Pemberton (one of Variety‘s “Ten Directors to Watch”) in competition at Sundance in 2000;
Andrew Shea‘s “Corndog Man” entered in the Sundance Film Festival and
over 20 other festivals including Santa Barbara, Virginia, Hamburg, and
Bangkok; “Night Train” by Les Bernstien (special effects D.P. for “Fight
Club“, “Stuart Little,” “Dante’s Peak” and Emmy winner for “Star Trek: The Next Generation“) which won awards at the Oporto International Film Festival/Fantasporto, Portugal; Jeremy Stein‘s “The Photographer“; and “Dancing Soul” directed by Lucia Rikaki, which chalked up a number of festival nods including the Bronze Award at the Worldfest International Film Festival in Houston.
In conjunction with the Berlinale, which has kicked off in Germany, the
company has announced the appointment of Carla Diamond to the position of
VP, Television and Broadband Productions. She will be based in Paris.
Diamond will oversee the site’s editorial content, the production of a new
syndicated show and its online premieres of feature-length content.

Sundance-Toscano Screenwriters Lab running February 14 – 18 in Oaxaca,
The participants and projects selected to participate in the Sundance-Toscano Screenwriters Lab are: “Quemar Las Naves” by Francisco Franco and Maria Renee Prudencio, “Idilio” by Diego Lopez and Marina Stavenhagen, “La Sangre Iluminada” by Ivan Avila and Jose Ignacio Valenzuela, “Cuatro Equis” by Juan Cristian Ortega and Mauricio Pichardo. “El Teniente Bello” by Ernesto Anaya, “Corazon del Tiempo” by Alberto Cortez and Hermann Bellinghausen, “La Mano del Zurdo” by Carlos Salces and Blanca Montoya, “La Gallinita Ciega Va” by Karen Chacek, “99% Asesinado” by Esteban Schroeder and Pablo Vierci, “Sumas y Restas” by
Victor Gaviria and Hugo Restrepo, and “El Bonaerense” by Pablo Trapero.
Among the advisors who will be working with the participants are Zachary
Sklar (screenwriter, “JFK“), Edward Pomerantz (screenwriter, “Caught“), Ulu Grosbard (director/screenwriter, “Georgia“), Laura Esquivel (screenwriter. “Like Water for Chocolate“), Victor Medina
(screenwriter/novelist), Marcela Fuentes Berain (screenwriter, “Hasta
Morir“), and Guillermo Arriaga (screenwriter. “Amores Perros“).

Carmen Toscano Foundation the very talented film community in Mexico,”
