“Chicago” Leads SAG Award Nominations

“Chicago” star, Renee Zellweger received a nomination for best lead actress from the Screen Actors Guild.

After its strong showing at the Golden Globes, “Chicago” is gaining more Oscar momentum after it earned five nominations for the Screen Actors Guild awards. “The Hours” got four nominations, and “Adaptation” got three. Each of those three films was nominated for outstanding performance by a cast, along with the casts of “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”

SAG’s lead actor nominees are Adrien Brody for “The Pianist,” Nicolas Cage for “Adaptation,” Daniel Day-Lewis for “Gangs of New York,” Richard Gere for “Chicago,” and Jack Nicholson for “About Schmidt.” For lead actresses, the nominees are Salma Hayek for “Frida,” Nicole Kidman for “The Hours,” Diane Lane for “Unfaithful,” Julianne Moore for “Far From Heaven,” and Renee Zellweger for “Chicago.” For supporting actor, nominees are Chris Cooper for “Adaptation,” Ed Harris for “The Hours,” Alfred Molina at “Frida,” Dennis Quaid for “Far From Heaven,” and Christopher Walken for “Catch Me if You Can.” For supporting actress, nominees are Kathy Bates for “About Schmidt,” Julianne Moore for “The Hours,” Michelle Pfeiffer for “White Oleander,” Queen Latifah for “Chicago,” Catherine Zeta-Jones for “Chicago.”

The awards, which are selected by professional TV and film actors, will be presented on March 9. Clint Eastwood will receive the 39th annual lifetime achievement award.
