The New York Underground Film Festival announced some key events for its 10th anniversary festival, slated for March 5-11 at NYC’s Anthology Film Archives. Opening night will feature the East Coast premiere of Sam Green and Bill Siegel’s doc “The Weather Underground,” which was a recent hit at Sundance. Closing night will be the world premiere of “Northwest,” a skateboarding flick from Coan Nichols and Rick Charnoski, who premiered their doc “Fruit of the Vine” at the NYUFF in 2000.
To mark the festival’s 10th year, there will be a centerpiece screening of Adi Sideman’s controversial doc “Chicken Hawk: Men Who Love Boys,” which caused a stir when it played at the first NYUFF in March 1994. The fest plans to announce the remainder of its lineup later this month.
