“Chicago” Dances to SAG Honors

In Los Angeles on Sunday night, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) presented its annual prizes. Awards were spread among a few films at the ceremony in L.A. but it was “Chicago” that nabbed the most SAG Actor statues. The film won the big award, outstanding performance by the cast of a theatrical motion picture, while individual actors from “Chicago,” “Catch Me If You Can,” and “Gangs of New York” were also honored.

Female actors from “Chicago” were big winners at the SAG ceremony. Renee Zellweger won the prize for female actor in a leading role for her performance as Roxie Hart in the Miramax musical. The female supporting actor award went to co-star Catherine Zeta Jones who appeared as Velma Kelly in the popular film.

In the male actor categories, Daniel Day Lewis was honored for his leading role as Bill “The Butcher” Cutting in Miramax’ “Gangs of New York.” The supporting prize went to Christopher Walken for his performance as Frank Abagnale in Dreamworks’ “Catch Me If You Can.”

The cast award was awarded to the entire troupe from “Chicago,” including: Christine Baranski as Mary Sunshine, Ekaterina Schelkanovaas Hunyak, Taye Diggs as Bandleader, Denise Faye as Annie, Colm Feore as Harrison, Richard Gere as Billy Flynn, Deidre Goodwin as June, Mya Harrison as Mona, Lucy Liu as Kitty Baxter, Queen Latifah as Matron Mama Morton, Susan Misner as Liz, John C. Reilly as Amos Hart, Dominic West as Fred Casely, Renee Zellweger as Roxie Hart, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly.
