“Ghostlight” To Open 5th Provincetown Fest; “Camp” to Close Event

Christopher Herrmann’s “Ghostlight” will open the fifth annual Provincetown International Film Festival this month, kicking off an event that will screen 49 feature films from 19 countries. Herrmann’s film is an homage to Martha Graham who is portrayed by performance artist Richard Move. It also stars Ann Magnuson, Deborah Harry, Mark Morris, and Isaac Mizrahi. The festival will run June 18 – 22 in Massachussetts.

Todd Haynes will receive the Filmmaker On The Edge award at this year’s festival. Among his films are the Oscar nominated and Spirit Award winning “Far From Heaven,” as well as “Velvet Goldmine,” “Safe,” “Poison,” and “The Karen Carpenter Story.” Previous recipients of the prize include Gus Van Sant, Ted Hope & James Schamus, Christine Vachon, and John Waters.

“Camp” by Todd Graff, which debuted at Sundance this year, will close the festival. The Friday festival spotlight is Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s “American Splendor,” while Alan Rudolph’s “Secret Lives of Dentists” will screen as the event’s Saturday night spotlight film. Among the other films set for the festival are Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato’s “Party Monster,” Claude Lelouch’s “And Now Ladies and Gentlemen,” Vladimir Michalek’s “Autumn Spring,” Suzana Amaral’s “A Hidden Life,” Niki Caro’s “Whale Rider,” and Alex Steyermark’s “Prey for Rock and Roll.”

The event’s Youth and Diversity Film Program will showcase a number of movies for young adults, along with a discussions about relevant topics. Among the films that will screen in the series are “Camp,” Jeff Blitz’ Oscar-nominated “Spellbound,” Liz Miller’s “Novela Novela,” and Feremy Simmons’ “School’s Out: A Life of A Gay High School in Texas.”
