The Nantucket Film Festival announced the lineup for this year’s eighth-annual event to run June 19-22. The fest will open with Alexander Rogozhkin’s WWII romantic comedy “Cuckoo,” a Sony Pictures Classics release, and it will close with Danny Boyle’s apocalyptic zombie thriller “28 Days Later,” from Fox Searchlight.

Nantucket will screen 24 feature films and 20 shorts, including two world premieres, five East Coast premieres, and five New England premieres. The features playing include Gregor Jordan’s “Buffalo Soldiers,” Stephen Frears’ “Dirty Pretty Things,” Catherine Breillat’s “Sex is Comedy,” Peter Mullan’s “The Magdalene Sisters,” Scott Saunders’ “Technical Writer,” and more.

Documentaries included in the program are Dan Klores’ “The Boys of Second Street Park,” Liz Garbus’ “Girlhood,” Robb Moss’ “The Same River Twice,” and Nicholas Philibert’s “To Be and To Have.” Free public screenings on the beach will include the classic “Jaws,” Niki Caro’s New Zealand award-winner “Whale Rider,” and Jack Cahill’s hobo documentary “Long Gone.”

The Spotlight on New England program will include Nantucket resident Elliot Greenebaum’s Gen Art-winning “Assisted Living.” In other programs, BMI will present a Music in Film forum with “American Splendor” composer Mark Suozzo and directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. And NBC’s Screenwriter Tribute will honor Ruth Prawer Jhabvala (“Howard’s End”). As indieWIRE previously reported, the Nantucket Festival will also stage a reading of Steven Soderbergh and Scott Kramer’s script for “A Confederacy of Dunces,” to be directed by David Gordon Green.
