Mark Gill continues to round out his team at the newly launched Warner Independent Pictures. Company president Gill announced Monday that he has hired two new executive vice presidents, one to oversee production and the other to lead publicity and marketing. Laura Kim has been named Executive Vice President of Marketing and Publicity, while Michael Andreen has been hired as Executive Vice President of Production.

The choice of Kim to head publicity and marketing at the new company will no doubt surprise many in the specialty film community. She is a highly regarded L.A. PR veteran who has been a key asset to leading indie and specialty PR outfit mPRm, a company that she helped develop and grow. At Warner Independent, Kim will report to Gill and lead all marketing and PR efforts and she will play a role in the company’s acquisitions efforts at festivals. She will remain with mPRm at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival and will join Gill in Burbank on October 6th.

“I am really excited to be part of building something again,” Kim told indieWIRE yesterday, “To expand the experience I have and to learn a great deal more is just too much to resist.” While Kim has resisted offers to join other companies in the past, this time, she said, it made send. “This just happens to be the perfect combination of people and projects and timing,” she added during the conversation with indieWIRE.

“It’s not an accident that Laura is working on at least half of all the good independent films released this year,” Gill said. “She’s brilliant, imaginative, notoriously hard-working and beloved throughout the independent film world.”

Andreen is joining Warner Independent from 20th Century Fox where he served as SVP of production. Prior to that he was a VP of production at Warner Bros for four years. In his role, Andreen will oversee the development and production of movies for the new company and report directly to Gill.

“I know Michael well from his last time here and am happy to welcome him back,” said Jeff Robinov, President of Production for Warner Bros. Pictures in a prepared statement. “He’s got great taste, great relationships, and is an outstanding executive. He’ll be a great addition to Warner Independent Pictures.”

Michael Andreen was recently involved with Peter Weir’s upcoming “Master and Commander: Far Side of the World,” Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Tripoli” and “Kingdom of Heaven,” and Roland Emmerich’s “Day After Tomorrow.” In the 90’s Andreen worked as president of DiNovi Productions and a creative exec at 20th Century Fox. He began his career as a reader for Martin Scorsese and Jonathan Demme after graduating from New York University’s Tisch School.

Laura Kim joined mPRm in 1992, when the outfit was known as The Pogachefsky Company. Corporate clients have included Sundance Institute, Good Machine, Strand, and IFP/Los Angeles, while she has worked on such films as “American Splendor,” “Capturing the Friedmans,” “Muriel’s Wedding,” “Shine,” “Happiness,” “In The Bedroom,” and “The Pianist.” Kim previously worked at Buena Vista Pictures Marketing and began her career in entertainment as a Warner Bros. college rep in Boston.

Andreen and Kim are joining Warner Independent along with recently announced new execs Paul Federbush and Tracey Bing. Last week, Federbush had been named Sr. VP of Production and Acquisitions while Tracey Bing was named VP of Production and Acquisitions. Warner Bros. Entertainment announced the launch of Warner Independent on August 7th, officially naming Gill to serve as president of the new autonomous film label.
