The big draw of the first weekend of the Atlanta Film Festival was without a doubt Jacob Gentry’s “Last Goodbye.” While the movie screened last month at the Tribeca Fest, this weekend in Atlanta was the homecoming premiere for the movie. Bolstered by a cover story in alternative weekly “Creative Loafing,” the filmmakers drew a huge crowd to their polished feature Saturday. It would be unfair to judge the film since I was only able to see the first half before heading out to another event, but its fair to say that the director’s self-described “love letter to Atlanta” showcases the enthusiasm of the local Atlanta film community.
Also worth mentioning is the ongoing success of local production, “The Journey.” The feel-good doc, drew huge crowds during a local showing at the Atlanta Film Fest a few years back. Now the movie is on DVD and its local team is planning other projects.
