Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. The Hives, Tyrannosaurus Hives (Short, sweet, raw, and loud. These boisterous Swedes do it again with a punk rock salute.)

2. A.C. Newman, The Slow Wonder (The leader of the New Pornographers crafts a soft and solid one-man show of indie rock elegance. British invasion influences meet Canadian eccentricity.)

3. Tanya Donelly, Whiskey Tango Ghosts (The former Belly and Throwing Muses frontwoman injects tons of pillowy acoustic songwriting for her latest solo record. Lullaby music.)

4. Metallica, Some Kind of Monster (The companion piece EP to the new documentary is a fun and intense ride through the title track and several live classics, recorded in Paris on the hottest day in French history.)

5. The Roots, The Tipping Point (This hip-hop opus was on last week’s list, but I’m reprinting it because it’s worth mentioning that this will probably be one of the best albums of the year.)
