Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. The Roots, The Tipping Point (The hip-hop collective creates its most tuneful and catchy record of its entire career. Infectious melodies, scarce samples, and great instrumentation abound.)

2. The Polyphonic Spree, Together We’re Heavy (This choral band of 20-plus members soars with seamless psychedelia and a mini rock opera. They’re better in concert, but their compositions are still sunny summer oceans of harmony.)

3. Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter, Oh, My Girl (Imagine a female Neil Young sitting in with Tom Waits and that almost paints the right picture for this group. Angelic vocals and heavenly country-tinged songwriting makes this one a winner.)

4. Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Who Is This America? (A pulsing and pounding afrobeat orchestra, Antibalas meshes soulful rhythm with stunning arrangements.)

5. Sparta, Porcelain (Emocore rock may be the flavor of the month, but these former At The Drive-In members still keep it worthwhile with top-shelf smarts. Not as good as their impressive debut, but still stronger than most punk throwbacks on modern rock radio today.)
