News travels in two’s, I suppose. This whole Michael Moore-coming-to-Crawford story was breaking, when I was told that it was our buddies at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin organizing this international news-making event. The Alamo folks do these “Rolling Roadshow” events, which are basically outdoor screenings involving a portable, inflatable screen that Alamo owner Tim League found in Europe. This screening of Fahrenheit 9/11 in Bush’s backyard was just the latest in a long line of “Rolling Roadshow” events.
So the second bit of news? Just as I was checking out how far Crawford was from Austin (to see if a last-minute roadtrip would be worth it), news has come that Michael Moore will not be appearing at the screening after all. The reason, accordining to the Alamo Web site, includes: “He does not want to risk distracting from the focus on the good folks” the screening will benefit, as a fundraiser. An odd reason, to be sure, but at least now I know I can stay in Austin tonight rather than drive two hours to Bush’s ranchtown.
