Pawel Pawlikowski won the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Film at the 2004 Edinburgh Film Festival for his new film, “My Summer of Love“. The director won the same prize in 2000 for his film, “The Last Resort.” Pawlikowski’s film stars Natalie Press, Emily Blunt, and Paddy Considine in the story of two teenaged girls who meet and become friends over the summer, despite having different backgrounds. “With its note-perfect performances, its dreamy visual style and air of languid eroticism, this is British cinema at its most sophisticated and superb: watching, the word masterpiece comes to mind,” said festival organizers in the film’s official description.

Morgan Spurlock won the festival’s Guardian New Director’s Award for “Super Size Me,” his acclaimed fast food documentary that debuted at Sundance earlier this year.

Damien O’Donnell was awarded the Standard Life Audience Award for “Inside I’m Dancing,” a comedy about two people who meet in a home for the disabled, described by the festival as the “uplifting story of young men overcoming the odds.”

The Kodak & UK Film Council Award for Best British Short Film was shared by Iain McDonald‘s “Billy’s Day Out” and Christine Molloy & Seamus McGarvey‘s “Who Killed Brown Owl,” while the McLaren Animation Award for New British Animation went to Shynola for “Blur” (“Good Song”) and John-Paul Harney for “Brand Spanking.” Jim Hickey’s “And So Goodbye” won the Saltire Society Grierson Award for Short Documentary and the Prix UIP (European Short Film Award) went to Richard Jordan‘s “Cleopatra’s Nose” (La Nariz de Cleopatra).
