Morning Becomes Eclectic

Morning Becomes Eclectic

So I came into work early today, because I was out and about doing morning radio. I don’t know how morning radio DJs manage to get up as early as they do every single weekday, and then act chipper and chatty on top of that. Needless to say, I’m not that kind of morning person. I would much rather watch the sun come up after a day awake, and then sleep away the Regis and Kelly hours.

I was on the air with Kevin & Kevin, for their morning show on Austin’s KGSR 107.1, one of the best stations in town. And, in a town with a lot of music, that’s saying something. I was on the air to plug our SXSW Summer Cinema Series, which begins tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse.

You never know how radio is viewed in today’s world of digital cable, satellite radio, and Internet radio. Personally, I think nothing beats a good DJ. I think that approach works, and I’m biased, because I spent a summer as a DJ for the South Padre Island station, 92.7, an alt-rock format. Regardless, a good DJ really makes the difference to me. I especially dig Nic Harcourt on KCRW’s daily “Morning Becomes Eclectic” show, out of Santa Monica. Thank god for Internet radio, which lets me listen to “Morning Becomes Eclectic” as much as I can while I sit at my desk in Texas.

So, onto the day with little sleep and a lot to do. At least I have coffee, and “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” to look forward to over the next few hours.
