Farmer’s Tan

Farmer's Tan

ACL FEST 2004 – Day Three – Part Three

Well, it’s over. My farmer’s tan is pretty brutal and I can’t decide if it’s cool that I got some sun or if it’s going to look really unhealthy. Oh well, red badge of courage, I guess.

The night and weekend wrapped up with two very strong performances. I caught Wilco, who are just still at their peak. Leader Jeff Tweedy has never looked so relaxed and rockin’ onstage. Surprisingly, the band didn’t dive into much older material, sticking to their last two records for the most part. While that was a disappointment, their show was nice. It was easily helped by the sunset…

Wrapping up the night, for me at least, was a fun show by Cake. They know how to play to a crowd, and whatever they lack on their records, is compensated for in performances. Festival organizers must have seriously underestimated the draw for Cake, as their stage was severely crowded.

In the end, I had a very nice weekend. And, I need to give a big thanks to the following: The Piersons for transportation help, Jesse for serving as my personal bartender, Sara and Sarah for the publicity, Laura from Wisconsin for the beer, Sarah Flynn and the gang for the company, the folks at the Media Lounge for keeping us press folks properly watered and refreshed (thank you!), Raoul for the access, Joan for the car, and SBC for letting me update this blog while at the festival…
