ACL FEST 2004 – Day One – Part One
Reporting from the SBC Main Stage Connection tent at Austin City Limits Music Festival…
It’s hot. And I mean H-O-T. Last year, the weather problem was rain. This year, it’s the heat. Who knows which is worse. But I’m having fun. So far I’ve seen:
The Killers – Great, New Wave keyboard rock in support of great debut, Hot Fuss. Lead singer Brandon Flowers was decked out in longsleeves and a vest. How does he do it? They’re from Vegas, and it’s a dry heat there.
Louque – Nu-soul and very lush. Good stuff.
Electric Church – Blending drum ‘n’ bass DJs with gospel and dancehall. The climatic closer had a choir, an MC, the turntables, and a live band.
Press Conference – Franz Ferdinand and a few others held a press conference this afternoon. The biggest revelation? FF hates Scottish beer, but likes the Texas ale. He’s just saying that!
I think most people are in this tent to stay away from the heat. Okay, on my way to more shows… Be back soon… The sun comes up at some point, right?? I mean down, I meant down… see what this heat is doing to my brain?
