IN TELLURIDE | Up The Mountain

The mountain gondola in Telluride, this afternoon.

Pence explained that among the more distinctive aspects of the fest is the fact that one venue, the Chuck Jones Cinema in nearby Mountain Village, is only reachable by gondola. He loves the idea that after a screening up the mountain, attendees have to gather in groups of six for the 15 minute ride back down to Telluride — conversation is inevitable.

Festival co-director Tom Luddy (and press liaison Kathy Jones) invited the 35 attending journalists covering this year’s festival to take the gondola ride up to Mountain Village this afternoon for a brief press “orientation”. After a few questions and answers, media and patron pass holders gathered in the Chuck Jones Cinema for an unannounced showing of Zhang Yimou’s “House of Flying Daggers.” [I wrote about that one after I saw it back in Cannes — I watched the first hour of the film again today…stunning and a lot of fun.]

Now its off to the annual outdoor Opening Night Feed on Colorado Ave., I hope it isn’t washed out by the rain that’s currently falling.
