It’s been heard here and there, but I realized I never addressed this on the blog…
One of my favorite comic actors/writers working today, Bob Odenkirk, is making the trailers for SXSW 2005. For the unaware, these are the 60-second shorts that run before each program. The festival trailer is an odd thing. Sometimes festivals put a great deal of work into them and sometimes they just slap something together. And, it’s sad when they spend tons of time on them and they’re just weak. I mean, these trailers are gonna be seen again and again by audiences throughout the festival. So if they bomb, they bomb loud. Again and again.
We’ve been lucky and have had some really novel approaches over the years. One set of trailers were done by Ron Mann, and you can actually check them out here. Ron did wonderful job on them. We also had some fantastic trailers by Dan Brown, featuring Kent Osborne and Mike Mitchell. These trailers got great press and even won some awards.
We’re excited to have Bob involved this year. I’ve been a fan of his from his days as part of Saturday Night Live through The Ben Stiller Show on Fox (his Charlie Manson is awesome) and then, of course, his work on HBO’s Mr. Show with David Cross. Bob’s hilarious and a helluva nice guy, too. We’re really stoked about what he has lined up for the SXSW 2005 trailers.
Of course, these will have their debut at the fest, and will surely be another great part of our very fortunate trailer history.
