Just got in from the wrap party for Dot, the first film from Burnt Orange Productions. It was actually kind of historic, as this was the very first project from a truly new way to make films. Burnt Orange has garnered press over the last year as a new model of independent filmmaking, relying on film school resources.
The party, held at Club DeVille, was a laid-back time and you could tell the crew was celebrating a successful shoot. Director Jamie Babbit and producer Andrea Sperling were among the folks chatting away and exchanging gifts. Some of the Dot cast, including X-Men favorite Shawn Ashmore, were in attendance as well. Cast members Martin Donovan and Edie Falco had since left town. But it was certainly compensated by the presence of star Elisha Cuthbert. Can I just say, she is absolutely stunning. Even more of a gorgeous presence than in TV shows and magazine covers. Beautiful.
Cuthbert danced the night away as a DJ spun hip-hop and pop to the enthusiastic party. Everyone joined in, and I must give a big “thanks” to Burnt Orange staffer Alicyn Peck who managed to have the night’s DJ announce “Matt Dentler, please come to the dancefloor.” Thanks a ton, Alicyn. I hope you were happy with what you got!
So now, once tonight’s party wears off… the film ventures into post-production and an impending premiere. I was just happy to be a part of the first wrap party in Burnt Orange history. Many more to come, I’m sure.
