Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. Talib Kweli, Beautiful Struggle (Rap’s most underrated MC returns with the Neptunes, Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, and more in tow. The result? A slightly unfocused but still raw and intelligent hip-hopus.)

2. R.E.M., Around the Sun (There are a couple of real clunkers on this record, but overall, it’s pretty good. There are even one or two triumphs that rank among their best stuff.)

3. Zykos, Zykos (Polished and pretty indie pop from these Texas rockers. For anyone who misses the good ol’ days of Pavement and Sebadoh, you have a new band to follow.)

4. Trashcan Sinatras, Weightlifting (Their first album in almost a decade doesn’t disappoint. Spacey Brit-pop with the occasional riff-driven fast tempo thrown in.)

5. Brian Wilson, Smile (A total classic, reinvented and made beautiful. Anyone who even casually likes The Flaming Lips or The Polyphonic Spree needs to bow down and worship at the altar of these songs. Here, they’re given a proper home.)
