Watching and listening to Harvey and Bob Weinstein last night at MoMA, surrounded by their closest family and friends (including mother Miriam, Quentin Tarantino, and friendly journalists like Roger Friedman from FOX), it was obvious to me that the brothers are working hard to tout their successes and build sympathy as they continue to battle Disney, and also showcase themselves for potential investors. The 7-minute clip of films screened last night, focused primarily on the company’s award-winners, but as Brian and I noticed, avoiding the more controversial fare, like “Priest.”
Harvey in particular looked slimmer and healthier, and even spoke about his good relationship with “his ex.” After the warm Q & A session with Tarantino, the Weinstein’s milled around in the lobby outside the theater, talking to filmmakers and friends, and visiting with their mom — they also posed for their first indieWIRE photo. Staffers from competing Indiewood companies and a few journalists, including a Hollywood trade paper reporter, watched as the Weinstein’s casually chatted. No one seemed to press them about the future, but its what we keep wondering about.
