There’s a lot to like about the emergence of DVDs as a standard format to submit your festival entries. I would say this year marks the first time we have probably received just as many – if not more – DVD submissions than we have submissions on VHS. The timing has been perfect, as we were starting to run out of shelf space, until this DVD revolution began, making room for more and more films, given the width differences between DVD and VHS (boring programmer chatter, I know).
Anyway… here’s my advice to filmmakers despite all this: double and triple-check your DVDs before you send them in. Do they work on your DVD player? Do they work on your friend’s DVD player? Do they work on your mother’s DVD player? We have had to contact countless filmmakers to inform them of faulty DVDs. So, some advice: make sure your DVD works on as many different players as possible. This can only be a good thing for you.
