Tonight, I went to the launch party for the newest Alamo Drafthouse Cinema location. This makes Alamo Drafthouse #4 in Austin, and #6, in all. Many more will be popping up across Texas (and the nation) eventually. It’s located at 1120 South Lamar, just minutes from downtown. And, it was especially good for me to check it out, because it will be one of our six venues at the film festival this year.
About two weeks ago, a few of us took a walk-through to check out the new space and make some logistical plans. What they did in the last two weeks is amazing. All I can say is, I’m blown away by the work they’ve done in this place. They took a space that is not a movie theater and have created six screens of patented Alamo Drafthouse fun – wonderfully comfortable seats, perfect food service spaces, a full bar (with draft beer this time!), and more.
Tonight was a night for vintage films and “friends and family” in attendance, giving it a test drive. I was with a group that checked out the original Bad News Bears, a film I hadn’t seen in a while but have seen 100 times. Other films to choose from included: Death Race 2000, Slap Shot, and a few more.
I can’t wait for our audience to see this new theater for themselves.
