Au revoir Festival de Cannes…

Au revoir Festival de Cannes...

The 2005 Festival de Cannes essentially came to a close tonight with prizes presented and many people heading home. There is one more day of screenings tomorrow before the red carpet is officially rolled up. After a bit of a break yesterday afternoon for a quick trip to St. Paul de Vence and Antibes (photos forthcoming), I spent the day wrapping up our coverage and working in the Palais des Festivals, watching a feed of the awards ceremony with other journalists and then attending the post-ceremony press conference.

I asked Miranda July about her new blog and Jim Jarmusch about the impact of this festival on his own career and American independent cinema in general. Their answers are included in our awards story that will be published on shortly.

In the meantime, the indieWIRE @ Cannes blog has the complete list of winners, and a photo of the Dardenne brothers, who won the Palme d’Or.

Tomorrow, its time to hit the road for a brief respite from the festival frenzy. First stop is probably Avignon, and then maybe a quick jaunt to Cassis and/or Bandol, before returning to Nice for Wednesday morning’s flight. Tips on where to stay, resturants, etc are welcome…
