‘Hustle & Flow’ @ the Alamo

'Hustle & Flow' @ the Alamo

On Saturday night, Harry Knowles and Ain’t It Cool News hosted a special presentation of Craig Brewer’s Hustle & Flow (which opens July 13) at the Alamo Drafthouse’s downtown location. The evening began with a hip-hop freestyle competition hosted by Austin MC Bavu Blakes. Then, there was a collection of vintage trailers, from Super Fly to Run DMC’s Tougher than Leather.

As for Hustle & Flow, it blew me away. It’s a film about the power of music and the way it can transform you. It’s probably the best film about hip-hop I’ve ever seen. After the film, Hustle producer John Singleton shared some scenes from his own summer directorial effort, Four Brothers, starring Mark Wahlberg.
