‘Sharkboy and Lavagirl’

'Sharkboy and Lavagirl'

On Sunday afternoon, the Austin Film Society hosted its latest benefit premiere. This time, it was for Robert Rodriguez’s latest family film, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D. Not only was it in 3D, it was on an IMAX screen at the Texas State History Museum. Word is, a special print was made just for this premiere. It looked amazing to me, and I’ve seen my fair share of different kinds of 3D projection. The film’s after-party was a special kids’ carnival, constructed for the event:

(Families made up a large portion of the crowds attending the Sharkboy and Lavagirl Austin premiere.)

(Outside the theater, Robert Rodriguez speaks to some press while keeping his kids very close. Robert’s son, Racer, helped develop the story for the film and his wife, Elizabeth, continued her role as producer.)

(Wendy Anderson of the Austin Film Society is one of the masterminds behind events such as this. Here she is at the after-carnival with cotton candy and her son, Nicholas.)

(Harry Knowles of “Ain’t It Cool News,” far right, gives a wave as he lines up for the carnival’s sno cone machine.)

(My SXSW co-worker Wendy Cummings joins her husband, Wyc, and their two-year old daughter Harper on one of the rides.)
