Later this year, Focus Features EVP of production Amy Kaufman will branch out as an independent producer, taking on the role of producer or exec. producer of unnamed Focus and Rogue Pictures projects. She is leaving the Indiewood post she has held since the company was formed three years ago.

“After years of working together, and successfully launching both Focus and Rogue, David and James are giving me another amazing opportunity,” said Amy Kaufman in a statement Wednesday. “With their support and encouragement, I’ll have a more hands-on involvement with our filmmakers and their movies.” She will make the move to independent producing in September.

Recent projects shepherded by Kaufman have included Fernando Meirelles‘ upcoming “The Constant Gardener,” an untitled thriller from Asif Kapadia starring Sarah Michelle Gellar under the company’s Rogue genre label, and Jean-François Ríchet‘s “Assault on Precinct 13,” which Rogue released earlier this year. For the company’s Focus International, Kaufman was a liaison with Almodóvar‘s El Deseo, working on “Bad Education,” “Talk to Her” and “My Life Without Me.” She also worked on “21 Grams,” “The Door In The Floor,” and “Lost In Translation” while at Focus.

“Amy has been with us from the start, and we’re thrilled to be here at the beginning of this next exciting step for her,” said Focus Features co-presidents David Linde and James Schamus, in a statement. “We’re looking forward to the many movies she’ll be making with us at Focus and Rogue.”

Kaufman previously served as SVP of acquisitions and co-productions at Good Machine International, before that company was acquired by Universal Pictures to form Focus Features. The studio is owned by NBC Universal, which is majority-owned by General Electric.
