SXSW Winner “Hooligans” Picked up by New Outfit, Odd Lot

Lexi Alexander‘s South by Southwest 2005 award-winning feature “Hooligans” has been picked up by the newly formed distribution outlet Odd Lot Entertainment (OLE), company heads Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete announced this weekend. The film, which has been re-titled “Green Street Hooligans,” stars Elijah Wood, Charlie Hunnam, and Claire Forlani and will be released September 9th in the U.S. and U.K. United International Pictures is handling the release in the U.K. The new Odd Lot Releasing will open the movie in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, with planned expansions to other major markets in the following weeks.
“In the past few years we have observed a tremendous void in distribution for independent, mid-sized commercial films and decided that a distribution arm was a natural outgrowth for our company,” said Del Prete in a statement. Continued Pritzker, “When analyzing the marketing and release plans of several companies interested in ‘Green Street Hooligans’, we realized they were all focused on the traditional art-house platform release but we knew with certainty that our film appeals to a broader audience and needed appropriate commercial marketing.”
Odd Lot will focus on films in the $5-30 million budget range. The company currently has sixteen projects in various stages of development and production, some of which will be released by the company in the next 18-24 months.” Beyond the Box, the company headed by marketing veteran Paula Silver, former head of worldwide marketing at Sony Pictures Entertainment, will consult on the release of “Green Street Hooligans.” For booking and collection services, Odd Lot Releasing will work with specialized distributors such as Freestyle Releasing‘s Michael Doban and Mark Borde, currently involved with the release of “Green Street Hooligans.”
“Hooligans” is the story of journalism student, Matt Buckner (Wood), who has been expelled from Harvard for a crime he didn’t commit. His promising career ended and his future looking bleak, he heads for London to seek refuge with his married sister Shannon (Forlani) and her husband Steve (Marc Warren). Steve introduces Matt to his younger brother Pete (Hunnam) and, through their friendship; Matt enters the world of football fanaticism and the secrecy and intrigue of the football firm.
Additionally, Odd Lot has announced a joint venture with Hyde Park Entertainment with plans to co-produce multiple titles from the companies’ development slates over the next 12-18 months. The first of these films is the erotic, female-driven thriller “Trap for Cinderella,” written by Chris Gerolmo (“Mississippi Burning“) and to be directed by Iain Softely (“The Skeleton Key“).
