De La Iglesia's "El Crimen Perfecto" Set for U.S. Release

Alex de la Iglesia‘s “El Crimen Perfecto” (Perfect Crime), formerly known as “El Crimen Ferpecto (Ferpect Crime), will kick-off its U.S. theatrical release later this week from Vitagraph Films. The film, from the director of “The Day of the Beast” and “Perdito Durango,” is a black comedy that stars Guillermo Toledo as a Madrid department store clerk competing for a floor manager job while he has his way with any number of sexy store saleswomen. When the suave clerk gets involved with an inadvertent crime, he must plot to commit the “perfect crime.”

“El Crimen Perfecto” will open this Friday at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema in New York, followed by a special event with the filmmaker in Los Angeles on Saturday night including a screening of the new film and some of Alex de la Iglesia’s other work.

On August 26, the film will open at the Nuart in Los Angeles and in Costa Mesa, CA along with another venue in New York City. The following week it will debut at Chicago, IL, Minneapolis, MN and Dallas, TX, followed later in the month by runs in San Jose, CA, San Rafael, CA, Berkeley, CA, San Diego, CA, Miami Beach, FL, Austin, TX, Washington, DC, Seattle, WA, Cambridge, MA, Atlanta, GA, and other cities.

Among Alex de la Iglesia’s cult favorites, often co-written with Jorge Guerricaechevarria, include “El Dia De La Bestia” (The Day of the Beast), “800 Bullets,” “La Communidad”, “Muertos de Risa”, “Accion Mutante” and others. “Beast” is described as “the insane tale of a Basque priest who, with the help of a heavy metal guy and a TV host, tries to track down the anti-Christ who is scheduled to be born on Christmas Day in Madrid.”
