By all accounts, things ran very smoothly at the Flashpoint Film & Music Festival. There was a little rain on both days, which is pretty common for this time of year in this part of the world. But, with about 30 minutes of rain that interrupt otherwise beautiful and sunny days, it was no problem. In fact, I would take those 30-minute rain intermissions and catch a quick nap on a hammock chair. Who would have an issue with that?
(A small view of Negril, snapped on a brief roadtrip.)
(Me, hanging out at our property, which also has a pretty nice view of the ocean.)
(At one of the villas at The Caves on Sunday, The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things producer Lilly Bright is flanked by her boyfriend Neil, on the left, and actor Roger Guenveur Smith. Smith, who spends a lot of time in Jamaica, hosted an acting workshop at the festival. The character actor’s lengthy filmography includes many Spike Lee features, such as Do The Right Thing, Get on the Bus, and He Got Game.)
(Also at the villa Sunday night are Palm’s David Koh, Submarine Entertainment’s Josh Braun, and Fortissimo Films’ Winnie Lau.)
(Paul Bucknor is not only one of the founders of the Flashpoint Film & Music Festival, he also co-produced The Full Monty. The Jamaica native spends a lot of his time developing the filmmaking talent of the area.)
(One of the Flashpoint musical acts that impressed me the most was this singer-songwriter, who went by simply, “Katharine.” Her sound was kinetic but gorgeous, kind of like a Jamaican Liz Phair.)
