The beloved Dentler family dog, Jazz, was put to sleep last night. I’m in New York this week for the IFP Market, and not sure if it’s better or worse that I was not able to be there. The decision to do it had been discussed for a while, but the decision to act quickly all of a sudden was due to a recent visit to the vet.
Jazz lived to be over 13 years old, and for a black lab, that’s great. We got Jazz as I was becoming a teenager, more a dog for my younger brothers, so it definitely took me a while to warm up to her. But we bonded, my most vivid memory being the long nights during my senior year in high school, when Jazz would stay up with me as I finished term papers and school projects. We were the only ones awake and we had a nice time keeping each other company.
It was sad to watch her health fade away, but hopefully now, she’s finally got some peace.
