Rita Reaching Texas

Rita Reaching Texas

The atmosphere in this part of the nation is tense, because of Hurricane Rita. I just returned from New York, and things are pretty chaotic. Gas stations are sold-out of gas, groceries stores are sold-out of bottled water. The highway connecting Houston with Austin is backed-up for hours. Literally millions of folks have been asked to evacuate parts of Houston, Galveston, and Corpus Christi.

I had several H-town friends calling for a place to stay, and currently have two people crashing at my apartment with me, taking refuge from Houston. Austin won’t really get much besides a little rain, but everyone around here is waiting to see what happens on the Gulf of Mexico… again.

Here’s often-updated local coverage, courtesy of the Austin American-Statesman.
