TIFF 2005.5: Blocked Parties

TIFF 2005.5: Blocked Parties

Last few days have been a constant stream of movies, meetings, parties, walking, and not really much sleeping. Best films I’ve seen the last few days? Tristram Shandy, Twelve and Holding, and John & Jane. Meanwhile, I couldn’t get into a film I’m sooo excited about, the concert film Dave Chappelle’s Block Party. I did get to have a drink with the nu-wave band Bloc Party, but it’s not quite the same. Not at all. Can’t wait to see what happens with Chappelle’s film.

Here’s what else has been happening the last few days:

(DFW in TO… at a rooftop party for the doc Pick Up the Mic here’s – left to right – Chris Vognar from The Dallas Morning News, Chris Kelly from The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, Robert Wilonsky from The Dallas Observer, and Elvis Mitchell, formerly with the Star-Telegram but now Interview. Texas, in a whole other country.)

(Here’s something you don’t see often, until now. Indie film publicist/producer Seth Carmichael struts some nice duds because, well, Carmichael PR is officially no more. That’s right. Carmichael, a fixture of the indie fest scene, is now working for Goldcrest, an office job in film. I think Seth can do it.)

(Arriving at the Club Monaco party for HDNet, is actor Ethan Hawke.)

(John Vanco, who now runs the IFC Center in New York, pauses while we watch Wyclef Jean perform a solo acoustic show at the HDNet party.)

(Here’s Wyclef himself, in the middle of a set that included his own songs as well as covers like Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” His shirt is off because downstairs at Monaco, it was friggin’ burning hot.)
