The 30th Toronto International Film Festival will continue to roll through the weekend, but I’m back in Austin this afternoon. While there were still plenty of films I wanted to see, I think I picked the proper day to return. My final day in Toronto was marked by more films, meetings, and parties. The most surprising and special of those being a chance to check out Ron Mann’s new documentary feature in rough cut form.
Here’s the final mPOP from TIFF 2005:
(How many movie stars and celebrities attend the Toronto Film Festival? So many, that at posh hotels like the Four Seasons here, locals will wait outside all day just for the chance of getting an autograph from someone coming or going. I didn’t have to wait too long to get a picture of the locals, though.)
(Two of my fellow indieWIRE bloggers: David Wilson from the True/False Film Festival and Tom Hall from both Sarasota and Nantucket Film Festivals. This is at Sassafras on Tuesday night, for the Sarasota fest’s “Green Fairy” party. Yes, it included absinthe.)
(Jeff Daniels arrives with his wife for IDP’s Squid and the Whale party at Club Monaco. Folks were whispering about Daniels’ awards chances for his performance in the film.)
(Outside Club Monaco, IDP’s Nicolette Aizenberg and I get some fresh air during the Squid and the Whale soiree. Nicolette is the best! Photo by Robert Wilonsky, who is pretty cool too.)
(Kevin Bacon, center, laughs with his wife Kyra Sedgwick and journalist Elvis Mitchell during the after-party for the controversial film, Where the Truth Lies. The film, directed by Atom Egoyan, has come under some heat for its sex scenes, featuring Bacon and Colin Firth.)
