AP: Malaysia Mulls Taxes on Foreign Movies

Malaysia will consider levying taxes on foreign movies and using the proceeds to help develop its domestic film industry, the government said Tuesday. The Cabinet is expected to soon discuss whether imported films should be taxed to help finance local productions through the National Film Development Corporation, said Culture and Arts Minister Rais Yatim. The measure would be part of efforts to boost Malaysia’s film industry, which is struggling to lure local audiences who often prefer Hollywood and Bollywood shows. AP reports.
