Austin Film Festival & Screenwriters Conference 2005

Random moments from this week’s Austin Film Festival & Screenwriters Conference:

(Myself and pal Kyle Thorpe from Focus Features take a step off the grid of the festivities to check out a few local bars on opening night. Kyle had just arrived in town with Brick writer/director Rian Johnson. Focus will release Brick next Spring.)

(Houston-based filmmaker Greg Carter, left, and Austin-based “HD For Indies” webmaster Mike Curtis pose at a Cedar Street Courtyard party. Greg’s latest feature, a biopic of the Houston Astros’ J.R. Richard, screened at the fest.)

(Following a special screening of their classic film, Ghostbusters, screenwriter/actor Harold Ramis and actor Ernie Hudson conduct a Q&A at the Paramount.)

(Local publicist, and friend, Melissa Smolensky worked PR for New York feature Backseat during the festival. Here’s Melissa with the film’s writer/co-star Josh Alexander during the after-party at the Sweet Leaf Tea headquarters.)

(Following a preview screening of his upcoming film, Prime, director Ben Younger answers questions at the Paramount. The film, starring Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman, is Younger’s first feature since Boiler Room in 2000.)
