Jury Duty on a Sunday Afternoon

Jury Duty on a Sunday Afternoon

Saturday found both the UT Longhorns and the Houston Astros winning their respective games. Both teams are inches closer to rare, and in some cases unprecedented, success. Sunday is another kind of competition, one in which I’m playing the role of juror. I’m sitting in my apartment reviewing the competition for the first annual Paste Magazine Rock ‘n’ Reel Festival.

The festival will take place October 22 and 23 in Decatur, GA (the homebase of Paste) and feature 32 bands and 20-plus hours of film. I’m watching a fraction of those 20-plus hours this weekend, primarily shorts that will be showcased at the fest. And then, my fellow jurors and I tally our feedback and determine winners. Pretty standard short film judging stuff, but it’s always a fun experience. And Paste has delivered a top-notch lineup. Check out the full screening details.

The bands slated to perform include Low, Mark Olson & Victoria Williams, Mindy Smith, Buddy Miller, Elf Power, and more. Check out the complete Rock ‘n’ Reel schedule, with both music and film selections.

As for me, back to work…
