Sunday night, pal Dan Brown and I grabbed a quick dinner on 6th Street at Iron Cactus. While we were chatting, we noticed a group of indie-rock kids walking in, looking exhausted. Sure enough, it was Brit “it” band The Go! Team, who we were planning to catch down the street at Emo’s later in the night. The band, who hadn’t performed in Austin since blowing up at SXSW in March, literally slept at their table. They were more concerned with sleeping than eating. This did not bode well for the night.
Well, something happened on the way to the venue. When The Go! Team took the stage at Emo’s, they were wide awake and gave everyone a fun show. The band is touring in support of their just-released-in-America major label debut, Thunder, Lightning, Strike. The combination of cheerleader anthems and ’70s horn/drums/keys make them the best party band you could never get to play your party. Here are some pics:
