THINKFilm Takes "The Big Question" to Theaters Next Spring

THINKFilm has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to Francesco Cabras and Alberto Molinari‘s doc “The Big Question,” the Film Sales Company, which handled the negotiation, confirmed Friday. The company’s head, Andrew Herwitz represented the film on behalf of the filmmakers, while Daniel Katz and Richard Rapakowsi negotiated the deal on behalf of THINKFilm. The Toronto and New York-based distributor plans an Easter ’06 theatrical release.

Shot on the set of “The Passion of the Christ,” the film, according to the Film Sales Company, “explores essential questions of the nature of divinity and belief through interviews with the cast and crew of ‘The Passion,’ including director Mel Gibson, and actors Monica Belluchi and Jim Caviezel.” The film, which is in both English and Italian, premiered last year at AFI FEST in Los Angeles.

“The film is somewhat surreal in that it depicts 21st century men and women talking about God and faith against the backdrops and in the costume of events that transpired over 2,000 years ago,” commented Herwitz in a statement. “It is both beautiful to watch and compelling to experience.” In related news, the group also revealed that Frank MannionsSwipe Films has picked up U.K. rights to “The Big Question,” and plans a spring theatrical release in Great Britain and Ireland.
