Koch Lorber Acquires Boynton's "Our Brand Is Crisis"

Koch Lorber Films has announced a deal for U.S. and Canadian theatrical and DVD rights to Rachel Boynton‘s “Our Brand Is Crisis.” The film, produced by Steve Shainberg, shared the International Documentary Association‘s top prize for best documentary this year, to be presented tonight (December 9th) in Los Angeles. The doc, with inside access over three years, follows James Carville and a group of U.S. political consultants to Bolivia where they advise a presidential candidate in his bid for re-election.

The film debuted this year in March at SXSW and screened at New Directors/New Films later that month. It won the Charles E. Guggenheim Emerging Artist Award at the 2005 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and Boynton was recently nominated for the Truer Than Fiction award at the Independent Spirit Awards.

“This film is a cautionary tale which comes at a very timely moment,” said Koch Lorber president Richard Lorber in a statement. “The parallels to the current US administration’s approach to selling the war in Iraq are staggering.” Koch Lorber intends to release the movie in the U.S. in early March, starting with a launch at Film Forum in Manhattan.

Andrew Herwitz of The Film Sales Company and Victoria Cook of Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz brokered the deal on behalf of filmmaker Boynton with Lorber and Tim Hinsely representing Koch Lorber.
