IFC Films Announces Deal for Cuesta’s “Twelve and Holding”

IFC Films Announces Deal for Cuesta's "Twelve and Holding"

Jonathan Sehring, president of IFC Entertainment, has announced the IFC Films deal for U.S. theatrical rights to Michael Cuesta‘s “Twelve and Holding” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September. “Twelve and Holding” is Cuesta’s new feature following the award-winner 2001 film, “L.I.E.” A release this Summer is planned.

Writing about the film, Toronto International Film Festival co-director Noah Cowan called Cuesta, “one of cinema’s smartest critical observers of suburban life, demonstrating how its closed loop inherently creates tragedy.” IFC Films described the movie as “following the tragic death of Rudy, the popular twin brother of the introverted Jacob (both roles played by newcomer Connor Donovan). Rudy’s death at the malicious hands of local bullies forces Jacob and his adolescent pals, Malee (Zoe Weizenbaum) and Leonard (Jesse Camacho) to make sense of some very adult issues. With a revenge plot in motion, the trio deal with unlikely alliances and troubling self-images.

“Cuesta has the enviable skill to take this seemingly familiar terrain and make it both mysterious and shocking at the same time,” said IFC’s Sehring, in a statement. “Both ‘L.I.E.’ and ‘Twelve and Holding’ make somber multi-generational statements about society and suburbia.”
Serenade Films, along with Canary Films, Echo Lake Productions, Frank Frattaroli and Mike Downey, produced the film. Sarah Lash, IFC’s VP of acquisitions and Sehring negotiated the deal with CAA and Leslie Urdang & Michael Nozik from Serenade Films.

Upcoming IFC Films releases include Lars von Trier‘s “Manderlay” and Adrian Shergold‘s “Pierrepoint.” Among movies that IFC Films is executive producing are Patrick Stettner‘s “Night Listener” and Susanne Bier‘s “After The Wedding,” both of which will be released by IFC Films.
