Sundance 2006.3: Sugarcube

So, the inevitable deal for Little Miss Sunshine was completed at Sundance. Fox Searchlight nabbed the film for a reported $10 million. The project, by award-winning music vid director Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, is due to be released sometime this summer. Sold by Cinetic, the film features a great cast including Greg Kinnear, Steve Carrell,Toni Collette, and more. Because of the immediate sale and the high-dollar price, many here in Park City are calling it the Hustle & Flow of Sundance 2006.

Meanwhile, it looks like IFC Films has just acquired the rights for Factotum, starring Matt Dillon. Originally picked up by Picturehouse in Cannes last year, the feature came back on the market for its Sundance debut. Other films that have garnered positive word-of-mouth (i.e. good odds for an upcoming sale) are Somebodies, Come Early Morning, Stephanie Daley, and The Hawk is Dying.
