Cannes's Un Certain Regard opens with omnibus "Paris je t'aime"

The Oscars really are over! On to Cannes: the festival issued a press release today announcing the opening of the Un Certain Regard sidebar with “Paris je t’aime.” Directed by some twenty international filmmakers, each focusing on one of Paris’s arrondissements, the film features segments from Alfonso Cuarón (Mexico), Gurinder Chadha (India), Gus Van Sant (USA), Isabelle Coixet (Spain), Joel & Ethan Coen (USA), Nobuhiro Suwa (Japan), Alexander Payne (USA), Oliver Schmitz (South Africa), Richard LaGravenese (USA), Tom Tykwer (Germany), Vincenzo Natali (Italy), Walter Salles (Brazil), Wes Craven (USA); and for the French, Olivier Assayas, Frédéric Auburtin, Sylvain Chomet, Gérard Depardieu and Bruno Podalydès.

The cast includes Ben Gazzara, Bob Hoskins, Elijah Wood, Emily Mortimer, Fanny Ardant, Gaspard Ulliel, Gena Rowlands, Hippolyte Girardot, Juliette Binoche, Leonor Watling, Ludivine Sagnier, Barbet Schroeder, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Nick Nolte, Sergio Castellitto, Steve Buschemi, Willem Dafoe, Yolande Moreau.

The Official Selection will be announced on Thursday April 20th.
