I’d almost forgotten that Fox Searchlight was one of the first major film companies to realize the power of the blog. This was years ago, way ahead of their time, and it even spawned mini blog sensations (Zach Braff’s blog, anyone?)… Thanks to a heads up by the Austin American-Statesman, I stumbled upon the blog of Thank You For Smoking director Jason Reitman. And, yes, the film is brought to us by Fox Searchlight.
In one entry, Reitman (who’s film will soon become the biggest specialty hit of Spring 2006) details his trip to Austin for SXSW 2006. Shortly before his screening, it was great to chat with Jason as he returned to SXSW as a feature filmmaker. In 1999, we played his short, H@. He remembered how it played before “that Camryn Manheim movie.” At first I drew a blank, but much later realized he was referring to the film Fool’s Gold.
Click here to check out his blog, where he details visiting the Alamo Drafthouse for his screening, running into Judah Friedlander at the Opening Night Party, and making a BBQ run at Salt Lick.
