"Conventioneers" and "Showbusiness: A Season to Remember" Among Top Florida Film Festival Winners

The Florida Film Festival (March 24 – April 2) awarded its Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature to “Conventioneers,” directed by Mora Stephens, while its Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature went to Ali Selim‘s “Sweet Land,” the festival announced recently. FFF’s Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Feature, meanwhile went to “Showbusiness: A Season to Remember” by Dori Berinstein and “Purvis of Overtow,” directed by Shaun Conrad and David Raccuglia took the audience prize in the category. In other prizes, Sian Heder‘s “Mother” and “Something Other Than Other” by Jerry A. Henry and Andrea J. Chia took the jury and audience awards respectively for shorts. Director John Waters, meanwhile, was this year’s recipient of the Florida Film Festival’s American Visionary Award. For more information about the 2006 event, please visit their website.
