Focus & LJ Developing "The Julia Project"

Focus Features announced last night that it is developing the tentatively titled, “The Julia Project,” with the Korean indpendent production company LJ Film. The companies will co-produce and co-finance that project, with Focus holding worldwide rights. Described as an epic drama, the film was described last night as “the true story of Julia Mullock, the American woman who married Kyu Lee — the last crown prince of Korea. The two wed in 1959, and Ms. Mullock found herself in a country undergoing seismic changes, and striving to define her own place in it.” A screenwriter has yet to be announced; shooting is expected to begin later this year, according to the announcement.

The news came as the company’s Focus International announced that it had its highest-grossing quarter in the company’s history, earning more than $145 million internationally for their films, lead by “Brokeback Mountain,” “Prime,” and “The Constant Gardener.” [Eugene Hernandez]
